Specials @ Niemuth’s for week of May 6th

Masters in May BBQ Competition went off without a hitch last Friday and Saturday.  Sponsored by the Appleton Smokin Good BBQ Club the event was held at Jellystone Park in Fremont.  It was not open to the public so I didn’t mention it earlier.  48 teams competed in the Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned event.  Tippy Canoe took top honors winning 3 of 4 categories and first place overall.  Lucky Q took 2nd both nationally ranked teams while Tim’s Full Belly Deli of Oshkosh, one of our guys,  took 3rd.  1st time competitor iBlade took 2nd in chicken topping his dad who was 4 th.  The cool part of the story is iBlade cooked 9 chicken thighs to turn in 6 for judging.  He dropped one on the ground and threw it away, burned 2 and lost the skin off one of the remaining 6 that needed to be turned in.  Turned in an odd box of 5 with skin and one without.  He also left the back bone on the thighs unlike all the other cooks.  Must have been some tasty tender chicken.  I was part of the organizing committee, we wrap up next week and decide if we want to do it again next year.

John my nephew golfed with Carter, Kenzie and me this morning.  He was up 4 strokes after 3 holes and ended up losing by 5.  I shot 51 today.  Kenzie didn’t sleep for 7 holes this week like she did last week, she was a little crabby by the 9th.

Carter put his feet in the water at the lake, still way to cold to swim.

Specials @ Niemuth’s for week of April 29th

Carter, Kenzie and I played our first round of golf this morning.  I shot 47, 8 bogies and 1 triple bogie.  Carter sank a 16 foot putt on number 1 just fooling around, I missed my par putt.  Kenzie fell asleep on the 2 nd tee box and didn’t wake up til Carter rang the bell on 9.  No one was behind us so we really didn’t need to ring the bell but you know how it is to drive past a bell that Carter rang all last summer so we rang the bell.

Trying to move Carter to a pedal bike might take a while.  Last summer he was on his balance bike, no pedals and a little demon.  On our bike ride Sunday Becki put him on the pedal thing behind the big bike.  Carter didn’t pedal much and was mostly leaning to the left except when he leaned to the right and almost wiped out AJ who was driving the big bike.

Fresh seafood for Tuesday will be Amber Jack.

Fresh seafood for Wednesday will be Ora King salmon, Smelt and something else I forget what I ordered.  Wild King Salmon fishing season opens Wednesday up in Alaska.  Should see some wild fish in a couple weeks.

Fresh fish for Friday will be Snapper, Scottish Salmon, Wild Gulf Shrimp, Ahi Tuna, Perch, Haddock, I think I ordered Whitefish again, Tilapia for fish tacos and PEI Mussels.

Specials @ Niemuth’s for week of April 22nd

My brother Bobby was giving me a hard time about going on vacation over the weekend.  I told him it is NOT a vacation when you spend 4 consecutive days with his mother, brother and sister.

Just returned from Columbus Ohio.  Took my Mom and brother Roger to see my sister Nancy and her family for the weekend.  Nancy has been there over 20 years and this is Roger’s first trip to Ohio since Easter 1968 when we visited my Aunt and Uncle who now live in Washington state.  Nice weather, showed Roger the town, celebrated my birthday on Sunday, the big 54 for those keeping track.  Roger usually travels west to Colorado or New Mexico where his friends live.

Carter informed me last Thursday that he has “magic powers.”  He proved it at the stop light when he went 3 2 1 green and the light turned green.  Of course it didn’t help that Papa would coach him at future lights and it worked every time.  Hopefully he won’t try to fly next.

I think Kenzie is hitting another growth spurt.  I needed the Table spoon to shovel the food in fast enough on Thursday.

Fresh Seafood for Tuesday will be Wahoo and White Perch from Lake Erie.  White perch look very similar to yellow perch, I saw them whole at Jungle Jim’s in Cinncinatti Sunday but are much cheaper, only 3.99 lb for fillets.  Give them a try!

Fresh Seafood for Wednesday will be Ora King Salmon and Atlantic Sole.

Fresh Seafood for Thursday will be Halibut and Monk fish.

Fresh Seafood for Friday will be Pacific Grouper, Scottish Salmon, Wild Gulf Shrimp, Scallops, Swordfish, PEI Mussels, Mahi Mahi and Ahi Tuna.

Order Live Lobsters, Clams and Oysters by 4 pm Tuesday for Wednesday and 4 pm Thursday for Friday.  734 4905 to order live or any of the above.

Brat Flavors will be Jamacian Jerk and plain in Pork and Buffalo in Chicken.

Specials @ Niemuth’s for week of April 15th

Carter attended the Lion King last Thursday with his mom, dad, NaNa and PaPa.  His head was on a swivel when the animals marched in to start the show.  He cried when Mufasa died and confused bad uncle Scar with his good uncle Scott.  He was a little cute when it went dark, “is it over?”  I was a little suprised at how many younger children were there and a little worried that Carter wouldn’t know what was going on.  His mom did a good job of explaining how the theatre was going to be different that the dvd.

Robins are back, Sandhills are here and the first long walk of the year with both kids today.  Carter had to walk the whole way, about 4 1/2 miles up to the school bus and back  because Kenzie was in the stroller.  Kenzie was way easier in the stroller than Carter but we still need to add air to the tires so they are not flat on the bottoms.  Kenzie went to sleep on the walk and both of them were sleeping before we left the house for Appleton this afternoon.  Probably aren’t sleeping at all tonight.

Carter walked through every puddle on our walk.  Why do you do that Carter?  Because the dogs do.

Specials for week of April 8th

My daughter has 4 tickets to the Chicago Blackhawks hockey game on Friday night to sell.  The other 2 that were going with her canceled.  Call me at 734 4905 if you are interested.

Laundry overload at several of the Niemuth households this weekend.  The annual burning of the burn pile was Sunday.  Carter, Cameron and Kylee started out just standing at the edge of the puddles but pretty soon they were in over their boots and wet to their underwear.  Carter came back for a 2nd time with dry boots and clothes and proceeded to carry chunks of ice from one puddle to the other.  Needless to say a 2nd load of laundry was needed.  I asked Carter if the laundry fairy took care of his laundry.  He said no my mom does.

Kenzie didn’t get wet at all but just wait till next year.  She is talking and jabbering all the time now.  Da – da – da – da is her best so far.  She does tell a pretty good story though.

Congratulations to my Brothers Roger and Bobby and their sausage maker Dan for taking a 3rd in the state for our natural casing wieners at the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors convention in Madison last weekend.  They don’t make “special competition” sausages, they take their every week sausages because they want to sell the same quality product 52 weeks a year not make it once a year.
